Data Use Policy

This Data Use Policy explains how PlotEngine ("we", "us", or "our") processes the data you submit to our platform — including voice recordings, text input, and generated manuscripts — and how that data interacts with AI models.
The short version: Your content is yours. We process it to provide the service, we don't use it to train AI models, and you can delete it at any time.
1. What Data You Submit
When you use PlotEngine, you may submit the following types of data:
- Voice recordings — audio files or real-time recordings used for voice-to-story input
- Text input — story ideas, prompts, descriptions, notes, and written content you type into the platform
- Generated manuscripts — outlines, chapters, character profiles, and completed manuscripts that PlotEngine creates from your input
- Editing instructions — feedback and directions you give to refine generated content (e.g., "make this more dramatic")
2. How We Process Your Data
Voice Recordings
Voice recordings are sent to our AI provider for transcription. The transcribed text is then used to generate your story content. Voice audio is processed in real-time and is not stored permanently on our servers after transcription is complete.
Text Input and Prompts
Your text input is sent to AI language models to generate outlines, chapters, and other book content. This processing is essential to providing the service.
Generated Content
Content generated by PlotEngine is stored in your account so you can access, edit, and export it. This content remains available until you delete it or close your account.
3. AI Model Usage
We do not use your content to train AI models.
Your voice recordings, text input, and generated content are sent to AI providers solely to process your requests in real-time. Specifically:
- Your data is sent to AI models only to fulfill your specific request (e.g., generate a chapter, create an outline)
- We do not contribute your data to any AI training datasets
- We use AI providers that offer data processing agreements and do not use API inputs for model training
- AI providers may temporarily retain data for abuse monitoring (typically up to 30 days), after which it is deleted
4. Data Retention
Active Account
- Account data — retained while your account is active
- Generated content (outlines, chapters, manuscripts) — retained while your account is active
- Voice recordings — deleted immediately after transcription; not stored long-term
- Usage logs — retained for up to 12 months for platform improvement and debugging
After Account Deletion
- All personal data and generated content is deleted within 30 days
- Anonymized, aggregated analytics data (e.g., total number of books generated) may be retained indefinitely
- Data required by law (e.g., billing records) may be retained for the legally required period
5. Your Rights
You have full control over your data:
- Export — download your generated content at any time (DOCX, PDF, EPUB)
- Delete content — remove individual books, chapters, or outlines from your account
- Delete account — request full account and data deletion
- Access — request a copy of all personal data we hold about you
- Correction — update or correct inaccurate personal information

6. Data Sharing
We only share your data with:
- AI providers — to process your content generation requests (bound by data processing agreements)
- Payment processor (Stripe) — to handle billing (only payment-related data)
- Hosting infrastructure — to store and serve your content (encrypted at rest)
We do not sell, rent, or share your content or personal data with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third parties.
7. Security
We protect your data with:
- SSL/TLS encryption for all data in transit
- Encrypted database storage at rest
- Access controls limiting who can access production data
- Regular security reviews and updates
8. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to how we use your data, we will update this page and notify you via email or in-app notification. We will never retroactively change how previously submitted data is used without your explicit consent.
